Overview

Kyajo Ri Peak can be a quintessential target if you’ve ever dreamt  of climbing a 6000 meters peak in the Everest region untouched by over-crowded expeditioners. The peak lies in Khumbu region between the hometown valley of Tenzing Sherpa. Despite being located just north of popular Namche Bazaar between the busy Thame and Gokyo valleys, the peak has very little attention from climbers and expeditioners. The mountain was commercially opened for climbing in 2002, the same year a French-British expedition made its first ascent to the summit. The Base camp of Kyajo Ri peak is located in an isolated hanging valley at an elevation of 4500 meters. The Base camp is not very far from Thame and usually takes couple of days of walking to approach. To ascent the summit of Kyajo Ri Peak, one has to utilize two camps. Camp 1 is usually setup at 5300 meters and is reached by crossing rough corrugation. We then make our way through an angular glacier and climb up a steep moraine and rock to approach Camp 2 which resides on a snowy Col. Passing the Col, we follow snowy slopes and overcome a rocky wall from where the pointy summit is exposed to the naked eye.
