15 days Island Peak
Overview
Island Peak is also known as Imja Tse peak. Island Peak is a high altitude mountain in the Sagarmatha National Park of eastern Nepal Himalayas. The peak is famous for offering astonishing landscape of Khumbu region and peaks from its summit. What most people don’t know is that Island peak is actually an extension of the ridge following the south end of the Lhotse Shar. How the peak got its unique name is a story in itself. During 1953, British expeditioners were visiting Mount Everest. On the Journey, they encountered a peak which looked like an Island in a sea of ice when viewed from Dingboche. That is how the peak got its name. Later the peak was renamed to Imja Tse in 1983 but the name Island Peak remained the popular choice. Island peak is bounded by mountains like Nuptse, Lhotse and Lhotse Middle and Lhotse Shar. One on the top of summit can spot the magnificent Cho Polu rising above the frozen ice of Lhotse Shar glacier. Excellent Mount Makalu vista is ever-present on the east of Island Peak.
Island Peak is of standard difficulty. It can be a perfect add-on to Everest Base Camp trek or any other trek in the region.
